Itinerary
DAY 1
SOUTHCOAST
After an early pickup in Reykjavik capital we are headed towards the Atlantic Ridge, which is the main reason for all our volcanic and earthquake activity on the island. Having crossed over to the eurasian tectonic plate and onwards to the south coast of Iceland our first official sight will be the ever amazing Seljalandsfoss waterfall that stands tall by the roots of one of our most recently erupting volcanos Eyjafjallajökull. For those who want to go the whole distance, another natural gem will be visited within the boundary.

Driving along the glacier our next stop is Skógafoss. Also fed by the glacier Eyjafjallajökull it is one of the biggest waterfalls on the island where the viking Þrasi Þórólfsson supposedly buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall, not to be visited.

After a local lunch we have the option to visit Sólheimajökull or Dyrhólaey before driving to the black sand beach Reynisfjara. This is one the most dangerous beaches on the whole south coast. With strong currents the North Atlantic Ocean is unbound and therefor visited with great care and respect.
Throughout our drive we will hear stories and witness the destruction of past eruptions and possible consequences from volcanos like Mt. Hekla, Eyjafjallajökull and the super volcano Katla.

After a short stop in Vík we will make surprise stop before reaching Hrífunes, where we will spend the night.

The three course local dinner at Hrífunes is known to be one best on the island. Its also the perfect place for possible northern light sightings.
Duration 8-10 hours.
DAY 2
GLACIER HIKE
After breakfast we start our day with a visit to Fjaðrárgljúfur, a glacier canyon that was carved out by the glacier in the end of the last ice age.

From there we are headed straight for Svínafellsjökull where the glacier hike awaits us. After hiking the glacier for a good hour, we drive on towards the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón in the end of the day. Wishing for good conditions the lagoon is an absolute natural wonder in all weathers.

A short drive will take us to our accommodation at a local farmland were we will have dinner and spend the night. If the northern lights forecast looks promising the only thing left to complete the day is to look out for the aurora borealis.

Duration 10-12 hours.
DAY 3
ICE CAVE EXPEDITION
After breakfast we visit the glacier lagoon again and depending on the light and sea level the so-called Diamond Beach by Jökulsárlón is an absolute equal in good conditions.
With breathtaking views and surrounded by unbound nature we join the ice cave expedition.

Leaving from Jökulsárlón we travel by super jeep to the Crystal Ice Cave in Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. We will spend approximately 1 hour in the cave which is only accessible in the wintertime.

On the way back to Reykjavík there are many things to see and the guide will make some stops that will come as a pleasant surprise and a perfect addition to the sites already visited.
Duration 10-12 hours.
