This outstanding 5/6 day UNTAMED tour is all about nature and wildlife with a two full days of the annual "gathering" . It's the perfect tour for the arctic nature and wildlife admirer. You will experience the UNTAMED nature and wildlife up close, as witness and take part in one of the oldest annual events "the gathering" with the locals in their own natural surroundings.

- ITINERARY & DEPARTURES -​
10-14 September 2020- sheep gathering .
10-15 September 2020- sheep + horse gathering (6 days)
DAY 1
Þingvellir - Hraunfossar - Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
After an early pickup in Reykjavik capital we are headed towards Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
 
Our first stop will be in the Rift Valley of Þingvellir National Park, which should already be in the autumn colours and therefor one of the most beautiful sights on the island during this time of year.
 
Leaving the national park we will drive through the highlands of the very harsh Kaldidalur or the Cold Valley, passing Langjökull glacier. We will have lunch in Húsafell.
 
Hraunfossar is next on the itinerary, amazing waterfalls that come to life from underneath the lava field of Hallmundarhraun. Barnafossar waterfalls are close by with the glacier river Hvítá running through.
 
In good time we will enter the Snæfellsnes Peninsula were we will make several stops until we reach the perfect placed Hotel Búðir.

DAY 2
Snæfellsnes Peninsula-Whale watching
We will have an early high quality breakfast and head out for more natural wonders and wildlife.
 
As will we travel along the magnificent coastline of the peninsula we will be circling one of our most famous volcanos on the island; Snæfellsjökull. With a glacier on top we will witness different lava fields from past eruptions. We will visit sights like ArnarstapiLóndrangarDjúpalónssandur and other secret spots off the beaten track before lunch in Ólafsvik.
 
After lunch we get ready for the 3 hour whale watching tour.
 
After the whale watching expedition we finish the day with a stop by the monumental mountain; Kirkjufell.
 
In the end of day we will enjoy a nice dinner before heading for our hotel for the night. Northern lights lookout after dinner.

DAY 3/4
The gathering- Vatnsnes Peninsula.
We will spend the morning down by the ocean, spotting seals and enjoying the company of the mythical stone troll Hvítserkur.
 
The highlight of the day is the annual day of the gathering of the sheep from the mountains. Farmers, farmworkers and other locals will go on horseback into the mountains assembling the sheep and herd them back to the sheep assembly Hamarsrétt, that is perfectly located down by the stone pebble beach of Vatnsnes Peninsula.  
 
We will end the day with a traditional local dinner in the farm of Ósar. Northern lights lookout after dinner. 
Note: In the 6 day tour we spend two nights in Ósar farm, one day will be for the annual sheep gathering and the second day for the annual horse gathering in Skrapatungurétt. Otherwise the itinerary is the same for both trips.

DAY 4/5
Kjölur route expedition
We will leave the locals and the coastline and head inland into the centre of the island.
 
While driving the gravel roads we will travel through black deserts, witness glaciers, volcanos and geothermal areas.
 
Depending on weather and road conditions, we will spend the rest of the day in the colourful geothermal hotspot Hveradalir.
 
We will have dinner and spend the night in the moutain huts in Kerlingarfjöll, hoping for the northern lights  to come to life.

DAY 5/6
Gullfoss - Geysir - back to base.
Waking up in the mountains, we will head back into civilisation with our first stop by the mighty Gullfoss. The waterfall is a part of the popular route of the Golden Circle and we should be there before the crowds and enjoyed as such.
 
The erupting hot spring Geysir is close by.
 
We will have a nice lunch at a local farm and then head back to base.
 
We will be travelling parts of the south coast on our way back as crossing the highly volcanic Atlantic Ridge before we reach the capital of Reykjavík.

  • Double occupancy accommodation for 4/5 nights at hotels/guesthouses with breakfast during the tour. 
  • Transportation with spacious and modified 4×4 vehicles.

  • English guidance by a native guide and photographer.

Note: For a single room there is a supplement extra, as single rooms are more expensive.
         Bring with you warm and waterproof clothes and sturdy shoes ready for winds and occasional showers.
